GABLS
Meetings and Workshops
1. Meeting at Climate Conference, Utrecht, NL, August 2001
2. Meeting at ECMWF, Reading, UK, March 2002
3. Meeting at 15th Symposium of Boundary Layer and Turbulence, Wageningen July 2002
4. Workshop at University of the Balearic Iles, Mallorca, September 2003
5. Meeting at 16th Boundary Layers and Turbulence Symposium, Portland, USA, Aug 2004
6. Workshop in September 2005 at KNMI, De Bilt (co-organised with the LOCO project of GLASS)
7. At the 17th AMS/Boundary Layers and Turbulence (BLT) Conference in San Diego a special GABLS session was organised.
In total 8 presentations dealing with the second case intercomparison were presented.
See for the program: http://ams.confex.com/ams/BLTAgFBioA/techprogram/session_19446.htm
In addition we also organised an informal GABLS meeting on further discussion of our findings
and on future activities just after 17BLT.
8. A Workshop was organised in June 2007 at Stockholm Univ., Stockholm
The program was as follows (See also http://people.su.se/~gsven/gabls/workshop/):
1. GABLS2:
Overview of latest results and experiences by participants (1D, LES,
Mesoscale...) What did we learn? Where are the remaining difficulties?
How to proceed and to complete? Do we need to consider further interactions with the land surface for this particular case? Extension with scalar mixing (such as suggested by iLEAPS)?
2. Discussion and preparation for next intercomparison case:
a. LES case based on GABLS2 (morning transition) b. 1D case (ARM
case?) c. Suggestion and introduction of new intercomparison case from participants (LES, Mesoscale ...)
9. During the 18th Symp. on Bound. Layers and Turb. (Stockholm) one session (8A) will be dedicated to the GABLS3 case study. Click here to see the program. Also, an informal GABLS meeting has been planned.
10.A new meeting summarizing current issues in the representation of the stable boundary layer in NWP and climate models will be held 7-10 Nov, at the European Centre for Medium Range Forecasts, of which the program is available here.
